Hi there, and welcome to Rooted in Wellness! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Sydney White, and I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Rooted in Wellness is my passion project—a place where I share my journey, insights, and practical tools to help others heal, thrive, and feel their best.
My journey into functional medicine began in 2020, when I was navigating my own health challenges. I quickly realized that the traditional healthcare system often focuses on masking symptoms rather than uncovering root causes. Frustrated but determined, I started advocating for myself and discovered Function Health, a program created by Dr. Mark Hyman.
Through this program, I had labs drawn that aren’t typically included in standard checkups, giving me a true “inside-out” understanding of my health. The results prompted further investigation, and I ultimately discovered a pituitary tumor (prolactinoma). Thanks to self-advocacy and timely intervention, I’m now six months post-surgery, my hormones are balanced, and I’ve fully embraced my functional medicine journey to optimize my health and wellbeing.
A little about my background: I graduated with my BSN from Ohio Northern University in 2018 and have spent the past six years traveling across the U.S. as a travel nurse. Becoming a travel nurse was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made—it allowed me to care for diverse patient populations and learn so much from every experience. Currently, I’m pursuing my Master’s in Nursing at Kent State University while also completing my Functional Medicine Certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine.
Outside of work and school, I’m an avid traveler and nature lover. You’ll often find me hiking, practicing Pilates or yoga, and exploring ways to move my body while nourishing my mind. Movement is medicine for me, and I’ve found that cultivating the mind-body connection can be truly transformative. I also love cooking and making time throughout the week to prepare nourishing, wholesome meals—it’s one of the ways I take care of myself and stay balanced.
This website is a space to take you along my journey while also serving as a resource for anyone juggling a busy life but wanting to prioritize their health. Here, you’ll find practical tips, guidance, and support to help you get to the root of your health concerns—whether that’s through nutrition, lifestyle adjustments, or functional medicine insights. My goal is to create a space where people feel heard, empowered, and equipped to take meaningful steps toward life-long wellness.
I’m excited to share what I’m learning, provide simple, practical ways to incorporate wellness into everyday life, and connect with others who want to feel their best—inside and out.
